Resisting the Boss (Mid-Life Love #1)

Resisting the Boss

This was my first time reading a book by Whitney G and I absolutely loved the story and her great writing style. I don't generally read books about older people with children, but I did enjoy this mid life love book. Jonathon character has the alpha male characteristics that I love, but sometimes I felt that he was steam rolling Claire into doing things she did not want as well as that he was a billionaire who did not seem to care about his business or money as he was just making changes and spending money for the woman he was sleeping with. I also felt that he did not care about his sister or his family once Claire came into the picture which I found annoying .I felt that Jonathon did not fight for Claire and demand that she stay when it counted the most and that he was always asking more of Claire than he was ready to give.   Claire's character was of a lady who is having a mid life crisis, but for someone who was meant to be mature it was irritating she gave into Jonathon's demands and she kept on playing games with Jonathon due to her insecurities. The chemistry between Claire and Jonathon was mind blowing and it was what kept me hooked on the book. Overall it was a good book and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Rating: 3.5/5

Hot Stuff (Hot Zone #1)

Hot Stuff

I am a huge fan of Carly Phillips books and when I choose to read a book of hers I know I am in for a brilliant story, however I felt this book a bit disappointing as it did not have the usual charm of her books. Brandon's character was selfless and always wanting to help those in need even if it meant opening up on his weaknesses, but I missed the alpha male type behavior that are synonymous with Carly Phillips books. Annabelle's character was one with fears and insecurity of losing her family, but I enjoyed how she tries to always keep her family together. I loved the inclusion of Uncle Yank and Lola's story as it helped bring a humorous dimension to the book. The chemistry between Brandon and Annabelle was good, but not as scorching hot as I am used to in a Carly Phillips book. Carly's writing style was good, but I did not enjoy the dual point of view as it kept on switching between characters in the middle of a chapter. Overall this was a good book, but not up to the brilliant standards of Carly Phillips.

Rating: 3/5

Plot

Annabelle Jordon, along with her two sisters, were orphaned when they were little which lead to them having to go and live with their sports lawyer uncle. Now all grown up, the girls have become publicists in their uncles firm, The Hot Zone.

Annabelle, is a beautiful young women who tends to be drawn to the athletic type, so when she is forced to take on former football legend Brandon Vaughn she is naturally attracted to me.

The chemistry between Brandon and Annabelle is undeniable and Annabelle soon learns that there is more to Brandon than just a hot jock. Annabelle must now hold on tight if she does not want to lose her heart.

Hidden Hollywood (Happy Endings Book Club #1)

Hidden Hollywood

This is the first book in the Happy Endings Book Club series and can be read as a stand alone novel. This was my first time reading a book by Kylie Gilmore and I enjoyed her writing style and story, but her character could have used a bot more depth. Claire, I felt was very self centered and even when trying to be a normal person was very concerned about her glamour image and what people will recognize her and I hated the fact that she lived in fear of the press and let them dictate her life. Jake was the typical billionaire character who is tired of money grabbing ladies, but  when he is trying to play a normal person he fully enjoyed the simplicity.  I feel that we did not get to see enough of the characters relationship with each another especially with how Jake manged to deal with Claire's stardom. The chemistry between Claire and Jake was good, but their relationship felt more physical than emotional. The secondary characters of Josh and Hailey was well written and I enjoyed watching their love hate relationship. Overall this was an okay book, that had much more potential.

Rating: 3/5

Plot

Claire Jordan is a famous actress, who is currently in the process of making her favorite book into a movie, through which she forms a bond with the author and the Happy Endings book club. One drunken night at the book club, Claire expresses her wish to date a regular guy which results in the book club setting her up with bartender Josh Campbell.

Chance for Love (The Watson Brothers #1)

Chance for Love

This is the first book in the Watson Brothers series as well as the first book that I have read by Ann B Harrison. The book was set in the magical town of Marietta which I always love reading about as it now feels so familiar due to the many books that I have read that was based in the area. For me personally, the idea of a mail order bride who instantly fell in love with her husband was a bit far fetched an unrealistic. I liked Callie's character because she was strong and independent and was straight forward, however I disliked how she instantly fell into bed with Chance as well as forgot about her sisters towards the end of the book. Chance's character was okay, but I felt that we did not get to know him well enough to form a solid opinion of him. The chemistry between Callie and Chance was good, but again it was not realistic especially for someone suffering with an injury. The secondary characters were well written and spiked my interest in the next few books in the series. Overall this was a far fetched story set in the magical town of Marietta, however I am interested to read the next book in the series.

Rating: 3/5

Plot

Callie is an Australian girl whose parents have just died leaving her with a large amount of debt as well as her sisters responsibility, so when she sees an advert for a ranch manger in Colorado she cant resist, however the contract stipulates marriage.

Chance is a famous bull rider who is unhappy with the life filled with glitz and glamour, so when an accident leaves him unable to return to riding he decides to fulfill his dream of marrying a down to earth girl who will raise bulls with him on his ranch. Little did he know that his Australian mail order bride will turn his world upside down.

Unconditional (Beachwood Bay #3)

Unconditional

This is another brilliant installment of what is turning out to be a magnificent series by Melody Grace. Melody has managed to keep me attached to the magical town of Beachwood Bay through her wonderful characters and outstanding writing. Garret and Carina's story is one of two damaged souls who are trying to move forward even though their past insecurities keep on trying to pull them back. Carina's character is a one of a strong women who was able to break free of an abusive  and fickle relationship and who has realized her past mistakes and is trying to correct them. Garret is tormented by his past and has been coping through his pain the only way he knew how. I enjoyed Garret's character because he was always willing to see the best in Carina and was always trying to protect her, but he was annoying and cowardly when he was running away from his feelings to avoid the pain. The chemistry between Carina and Garret was explosive and well conceived. I loved watching the characters from the first two books in the series being included in this book because it made the town and story even more familiar and enticing. Overall this is great series and I can't wait to read the final installment.

Rating: 4/5

Plot

Carina Mckenzie is running away from an abusive fiance and an awful past which leads her to the one place she felt happiness and comfort - Beachwood Bay. Garret Sawyer is not looking to fall in love again after how he has been hurt in the past especially not with an ice queen like Carina.
